Mission

The Directorate of Logistical Support provides logistical support to the Federal Police and, at their request, to the Federal and Local Police General Inspection, the Local Police and the Secretariat of the two-level structured integrated police.

 

Scope of activities

The logistical support as such is provided by 10 service centres (SER) spread on the whole territory. The Uccle centre acts as a co-ordination body. One of the Directorate of Logistical Support’s main missions consists in ensuring the “operationalibility” and the availability of the means allocated to the Federal Police’s directorates and units in terms of vehicles, infrastructure, weapons and material in general. Consequently it is this Directorate that designs, adapts, makes, maintains, repairs and eliminates these specific means. The local police zones can use an extensive range of specific police support resources and services – at their request and against payment – and benefit from proven expertise and low manufacturing costs. Other activities carried out by the directorate include maintaining special vehicles and police motorbikes as well as putting armour plating and stripes (visual identification) on vehicles. The directorate also assembles and maintains radars, customises vehicles, adapts and maintains weapons and manufactures special leather items that are not available in shops.

The Directorate of Logistical Support is also in charge of the integrated police’s printing house and of the delivery of consumer products to the federal units and zones requesting this service.

Finally, the directorate is responsible for welcoming visitors and managing the maintenance staff in various complexes.

 

Composition

The Directorate of Logistical Support is made up of 10 service centres, a printing house, warehouses and various support and reception services.

• The Decentralised Service Centres consist of several departments in charge of the management, the vehicles, the infrastructure, a warehouse and the arms factory.
• The printing house designs, prints and finishes off specific police printing works.
• The warehouses are designed to store consumer products, spare parts and police material.
• The support services have several offices whose tasks include the following: co-ordinating the directorate’s activities, managing the staff, the budget and the available expertise, carrying out technical analyses and conceiving projects.
• The reception services are in charge of welcoming and guarding some complexes.
