Missions
The SHAPE federal police perform their specialised missions on the public and privately owned areas at the disposal of SHAPE (including the base of Chievres and the SACEUR's residence).
Most of those missions are carried out in cooperation and together with the Military Police.
Our general missions are:
- Assistance;
- Investigations and interventions (prevention, investigation and recording of any infraction of the Belgian legislation);
- Community policing;
- Maintenance of law and order;
- Protection of the SACEUR and of the SHAPE installations and members.
Our unit also provides specialised support outside the SHAPE installations:

Link between the SHAPE community and the local police, local public services or any other partner having a relationship or in contact with SHAPE members;

Specialised support or assistance to other police services.
Our unit consists of different teams performing specific missions.
1. The assistance team mainly deals with:

- Complaint registration;
- Assisting the population (for instance by facilitating the registration of SHAPE members and their families in the population registers);
- Controlling the people visiting the SHAPE installations (visitors, suppliers, external workers, etc.).

2. The security team mainly deals with:
- The security of the sites and the people at SHAPE and the base of Chièvres, together with the International Military Police;
- Supplying staff for the maintenance of law and order;
- The Protection unit is in charge of the physical protection of the SACEUR during his travels in Belgium, as well as of the protection of his residence.
3. The intervention team mainly deals with:

- Basic policing on the site;
- Providing specialised support when the adjacent police zones have to carry out an intervention involving a SHAPE member;
- Supplying staff for the maintenance of law and order.

4. The investigation and community policing team is in charge of:
- Conducting investigations and collecting information related to public order and terrorism;
- Dealing with apostils;
- Community Policing.
