The Intervention corps
The Intervention corps was founded in 2004 by special decision of the Council of Ministers.
The establishment of the Intervention corps at provincial and Brussels capital region levels required a decentralisation of federal staff, in order to bring them nearer to potential targets.

The Intervention corps, which is managed by 11 coordinating directors, carries out all non specialised missions for any police zones and federal units in need of some support. Such missions consist in participating, on a limited basis, in maintenance of law and order operations or in large scale security or control operations. The Intervention corps may also detach police staff to police zones for longer periods.
The Intervention corps has 500 members of the staff. About half of them are detached on a permanent basis to local police services (but can be recalled if necessary). The other half operates here and there from the 19 bases located on the whole Belgian territory.
