Expertise and technical advice Throughout the years, the unit built up a thorough expertise as far as training and working with police dogs is concerned. The Dog Support Unit is available to all police authorities and police services for both general and more specific questions with regard to the deployment of police dogs for missions of administrative or judicial police (preparation of a police operation, specific legislation, special phenomenon, contact addresses abroad, ...). By setting up projects, the Dog Support Unit is constantly optimizing (the deployment of) its dog teams. At present, a puppy project, a Bloodhound – St. Hubert Hound project and a project directed at the reliability of odour identification tests are for instance worked out in detail within the Training Pillar. Situations the dog teams are faced with in practice can also give rise to a new project, after which the result of this project helps to answer the concrete questions of the operational dog teams. All projects are aimed at obtaining and keeping an acceptable quality standard and guaranteeing and increasing the reliability of the specialized dog support.
