Directorate of Special Units
The Directorate of Special Units is composed of several central and decentralised units. Those units are in charge of performing specialised support missions.
The Directorate of Special Units works for the competent authorities and for the Federal and Local Police.
All the missions of the Directorate of Special Units are carried out under the responsibility of the competent authorities. It never acts on its own initiative but only with the formal agreement of a judicial or administrative authority, such as the public prosecutor or the mayor.

Missions
The Directorate of Special Units performs the following missions:
- Organisation, management, running and operational coordination of the central and decentralised special units with a view to:
- implementing special investigation, observation and infiltration methods.
- implementing other investigation methods such as discreet visual controls and direct eavesdropping.
- carrying out special surveillance, protection and intervention missions.
- taking special witness protection measures.
- identifying victims.
- providing technical support for the aforementioned missions.
- Management of the central technical facilities for the interception of telecommunications.
